updated thoughts on this whole mess

It’s been a crazy day, we’ve heard lots of voices chime in on the “Disappointed Emergent” issue, it’s been a bit overwhelming to see them all. I’ve done my best to read through them, as well as the subsequent comments, and I’ve come to the conclusion this conversation was necessary.

It was needed.

That does not mean, however, that there were not over reactions. We did not all carry on the conversation to a level of respect that we all strive for. We made our comments and blog posts based off one blog post and a few comments, and I, at least, jumped to some conclusions not warranted by the intent of the original posters/authors. You know what happens when you assume, right?

So, for my part, I apologize for some of the over-reacting and assumptions made. I learned a lesson, and probably made some people angry that I didn’t mean to. I think others may have done the same, but I’ll let them come to that conclusion on their own.

Now, on to the better part of this post. I’m glad this conversation happened, I feel like it was needed. Sometimes we need that voice to provoke action out of the masses. Perhaps Nick was the catalyst. But beyond his original assertions, there were some other issues brought out (that I touched on in the previous post). Issues that had probably been brimming for a while, issues we need to take stock of and work out in a way that benefits us all. Issues that aren’t pretty, but need to be worked out.

The conversation must go on, but perhaps we should be a bit more… patient in our conversing. (Me included!)

  • I actually live about 25 minutes North of the city, but the cohort meets about 15 minutes outside of the perimeter.
  • Hey bro, thanks for this.

Where do you live in ATL by the way. I didn't make it up 75, obviously, but may at some point.
  • Could you copy/cite/reference some of the corrected intentions? All I can find anywhere from anyone is vitriol about how it isn't the way it was and it isn't the way it was supposed to turn out and somehow that's everyone's fault but the people who have had the most control all along, aka, the people who have been around from the beginning. I'd really like to know how people can justify the sentiment that they'd just as soon no one joined because they can't be bothered to help them along as something other than flat out uncharitable apathy. I'd really like to know how this whole thing is something other than sour grapes and cheap excuses for not keeping your voice in the mix loud enough to ensure something that's the shape you want it to have. I've been reading for two days straight and that's all I can find.
