iraq news

So, in the news yesterday was this little gem about the Iraq war. Take a moment to read it if you’d like, or let me summarize. Iraq is expected to finance it’s repairs and infrastructure, oh… and on top of that it’s expected to pay the fuel costs for the invading liberating (US) army.

Yup, that’s right.

“Ultimately, we expect Iraq to shoulder the full burden of these costs,” Bush said.

So why now?

Two reasons. First, the economy in America is slowing, congress, of course, wants to lighten the load on the pockets of the Fed to show a little bit better this year than last. Second, rising oil prices (due in part to… the Iraq war) are expected to give Iraq a windfall in oil profits.

Now, here’s what gets me. We invade Iraq, we destroy their infrastructure, we kill their civilians (with our “smart” bombs),  but they are expected to pay for it?

Great, good job gents, you guy (in congress) keep it up.
